By JulieAnn Mendoza 田真爱:
What is the most recognized word in the world? It is the world spelled and pronounced the same way no matter where you go in the world. So now, don’t cheat and look it up on the web and try to guess. By the way, Joe, you know the answer. So, be quiet.
“OK” is the term of approval or a sound often written as… or more formally as simply… or sometimes used with other words as in “Okey, dokey!” According to some studies, OK is the most frequently spoken word on the planet. However, the original word ok is not clear and they’re lot of explanations where this, where it came from. And, uhmm… the word OK is one of the most popular subjects in Etymology and I’m gonna give you several explanations where this word came from. OK stands for zero killed. American soldiers used it during World War II when they come back for mission. Zero killed meant that no soldiers died during that mission. Ok comes from the native American word “Okeh” and nobody knows what this original word meant. OK was originally a telegraph term for open key, the same kind of key that you can find on your computer keyboard. OK stands for “Oll Korrect”. It means spelling of “all correct”. The United States president Andrew Jackson was a terrible speller and he wrote OK for all correct in his documents. Many philologists believed that this explanation is closest to the truth. Okay, I hope you likes my video and learned something new so remember to subscribe because I’m coming back with more lessons. Thank you very much. Ba-bye.
