the tomb of the wanli emperor(r.1572-1620) ming dynasty(1368-1644)
i am standing in the tomb complex of tombs of one of the ming dynasty emperors, this
complex is locationed along with 12 other tombs of ming emperors.just about hours driving north of beijing.
and we will torwards this complex ,this complex has contained tombs of wanli emperors who reigned from the western year 1572 to 1620.so we are going come on in and check out his tomb.
So here you see an imperial ramp with a carving of the phoenix and a dragon which with the imperial symbols the yinyang male female symbols, and only the emperor was allowed to walk up the center, central ramp, so assumably when the main emperors paid a visit to their ancestors ,they would be escorted up the center of this ramp, and in fact up the center of this marble pathway here, they would be the only who could walk on the marble pathway and the ramp, leading up to the tomb of their forefathers.
So here where the emperor pay an Amish to your fathers, grandfathers and lots of ancestors in the mean.
You will be walking down the central pathway where you would pass over yet another phoenix and dragon and apprehending on your way further into the imperial tomb.
So here we are at the gate leading into the imperial tomb, and this gate of Pai Lou would separated the earthly realm from the numinous realm.
so as far entry of this gate ,you were in the secret ground where ancestral spirits resided and this gate is guarded at the top by a pair of dragons which face each other at the top there, actually I'm not sure they're dragons, they might be some other mythical beast.
um,traditionally gates to houses, home, palaces and tombs are guarded by supernatural guardians who prevent evil spririt from entering the numinous realm.
Over in this corner here we see where the emperor had his icecream before venturing into the imperial tomb to pay ** to ancestors.
He would sit on the seat with the,on the royal elephants along with his family and enjoy some icecream or maybe a hotdog before proceeding onward to conduct the proper rituals and ----- ,that would insure the .prosperity of the dynasty
Here we are at the base of the ceremonial hall in imperial tomb and as you can see it was pretty difficult job for the emperor to scale the wall. up to the top where he would pay his obviescences. Um it was always quite an arduous task and only the top, the most fit emperors will up to this task. So, this was the way of wicking out the weak airs and insuring that the fittest son was going to be the next emperor.
so in the background you hear chinese tourguide explain the 'bei",which represent the emperors ,but what she doesn't know
is that on the other side of the "bei" would be a secret character.
and only the imperial family could read,so this is a little know
secret that only ming dynasty historian understand, most chinese don't know this.but if you look at this side in the late of setting sun on 7 of july, this secret character will appear, and those secret
character are the true name of the wanli emperor, you see nobody knew his true name except for his-----.and that is how we able to keep his secret secret name ,truly secret.
so here we are in front of the soul tower, built in 1587,it's a symbol instructure of ----------.and other little known fact is that
the soul tower was soul music where invented .the chinese invented
soul music as they invented paper ,a printing press, the compass ,and
----.
but little known fact is THAT wanli emperor was in fact great fan of soul music.so when soul music arose in american in the 50 and 60,that was actually a product of wanli emperor.
So,here we r. We r walking towards the tumulus saw the,the actual tomb under which the WANLI emperor buried, and u can c that it's a hillock,a very sizeable mound of hillock, here, who rising behind these seeders(?).
But another little known fact is that:when the Wanli Emperor was buried here? There was no hillock, there was no tumulus.
What happened is that when the emperor is great, truely great emperors, as was the Wanli Emperor, his soul so powerful that one of one * is put into the earth, his soul expands, and that the expands lift the earth up,and creates a tumulus of fact.
That is why the tomb of the qing emperors is as grand as it is.It's in fact the size were mountain because the qing emperor had a soul to size of mounted, and that's why he was able to unite China.
here we are in the central of chamber ,otherwise none of the name, and this is a throne ,a marble throne,if you haven't figure that out by now, the dragon is an important symbol in china,
and there were several here, dragon's heads decorating on the top of the throne as well as the quilling dragons reaching up and over the throne
So this is the imperial throne where the wanli emperor sits in the after life, and the dragon actually that rises and hangs its head over the back of the throne serves as a back scratcher for the emperor. and his back gets awfully itchy ,and there’s not always somebody here to scratch it for him.
here is his actual coffin, and as you can see he is not 15 meter's long, but he is still a big big man,his concubines were fairly big as well.
to the left, you have the empress xiaozhuang coffin;to the right, you have the empress xiaojing 's coffin. and these were his 2 favourite empresses .and you can see the very hefty woman, like the tang dynasty ,the wanli emperor really enjoyed voluptuous woman..
