好多地方听不出来就瞎猜了大家校正
At the stroke of midnight lifting the last barrier of bureaucracy on the Austria-Hungary border once a heavily guarded frontier between the western and the communist east now seen as blocking the path to opening up the Europe. The Schengen treaty was designed to make working and doing business in Europe easier. Hungarians amongst the east Europeans are able to travel freely as far as Portugal without having to show their passports. For many it heralds the final fall of the Iron Curtain.
“I’m very happy our children and my children will not feel they crapping their bodies that my parents felt when they approached a border.”
But the new comers aren’t getting a free ride. As a condition for joining the passport-free zone they had to tighten up controls on their border with eastern neighbor such as Ukraine. But they all are concerned that illegal immigrants and organized crime can travel freely from the Baltic Sea to the English Channel.
“This change could be good but also bad all depends how you take it. Controls had a purpose of stopping the movement of criminals, fugitives, stolen cars and so on. ”
2 days of official celebrations for the biggest expansion of the Schengen area now begins. It includes 24 countries with Switzerland joining next year. But Britain and Ireland remain resolutely out.
