In northern California's wine country, the Anderson valley is a place of tranquility until harvest time.
Then the race is under way, they pick the crop at its peak. And the Navarro Winery owner Ted Bennett now gets help from his daughter Sarah.
She is just home from college with a master in wine making and some new ideas about running the place.
Sarah hire a herd of workers hungry to help; the new workers are called baby doll sheep, native of Sussex county England. Though not exactly cuddly they are short, and that's important in this job.
Cos the bigger sheep, they’ll eat the grapes, they'll eat them all, the baby doll's won't, they are too short to reach the grapes. Their job is to keep their heads down and eat weeds.
Cost me half for tractor time to take out the weeds, so we can, you know, eliminate 50 percent of our fuel, just simply by replacing the machine.
But after months of tending this vineyard with the harvest it's now time for the little sheep to head home and in some ways that's when the fun really begins.
Herding sheep in an open field is challenging enough, but for Grace, the border collie, a roundup among the vines takes particular persistence, from her point of view, those short little sheep legs won't get any rest, until they are all heading in the right direction.
Grace got the baby dolls out of the vines. And then humans took over the job, probably a mistake, and their job now is to get settle back in here and then go make babies.
And when it comes to that part of the job, the baby dolls don't seem at least bit, sheepish, John Blackstone CBS news, Petaluma California.
