By BaReeD235:The explanations helped me a lot to understand some of the differences between the 2 Englishes lol , thanks a lot Margaret ! Lovely accent, very clear, and nice reading.
By dragonron:>Maybe I should make a new recording! I am looking forward to it. though i sound like fake-American, i always love this elegant proper British. Thank you very much.
By Margaret Derrington:The more I think about it the more differences there are! We English would say "Please 'PHONE Stella" rather than 'CALL' her. We would CALL her by shouting her name if she were upstairs or at the other end of the garden and we wanted her to come and talk someone on the 'phone. Another difference is the meaning of the word STORE. In the UK 'Bring these things from the STORE' means retrieve them from where they have been stored in some cupboard or storeroom. The US version almost certainly means that Stella is to buy them from a shop. So we would probably say 'Please 'phone Stella and ask her to bring these things with her from Sainsbury's.' (or M&S or Tesco's...) ...Maybe I should make a new recording!
